VC KIU paid an official visit to KIU Ghizer Campus

The Vice Chancellor of Karakoram International University (KIU), Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah, paid an official visit to KIU Ghizer Campus to review ongoing academic activities, institutional development, and student support initiatives.

During the visit, the Vice Chancellor assessed the academic environment and reviewed progress in teaching, learning, and campus administration. He interacted with students, encouraging them to stay focused, work with dedication, and pursue their goals with determination to achieve future success.

He also held a detailed meeting with faculty members, discussing academic standards, departmental performance, and future development plans, while emphasizing the need to maintain quality education across all disciplines.

The Vice Chancellor observed the ongoing Visiting Faculty recruitment interviews for the upcoming academic session and appreciated the transparent and merit-based selection process adopted by the campus administration.

In addition, he visited the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Training Program, being conducted with the support of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC). He acknowledged the efforts of the campus team and appreciated NAVTTC’s role in promoting skill-based education and professional development opportunities for youth in the region.

The Vice Chancellor commended the campus administration for its commitment to academic excellence and community development, reaffirming KIU’s vision of delivering quality education and practical skills in remote mountainous areas.

Certificate Distribution Ceremony

The six-month special diploma course on Fisheries and Aquaculture, organized at Karakoram International University (KIU) Ghizer Campus with the support of the Pakistan Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF), has been successfully completed. A total of 55 students received modern, hands-on training during the course.

A graceful certificate distribution ceremony was held at the Ghizer Campus, attended by officials from the KIU Financial Aid Office, representatives of PEEF, senior administrative and teaching staff of the campus, and a large number of graduating students.

Addressing the ceremony, the speakers paid rich tribute to PEEF for its key role and appreciated its efforts in offering modern, market-oriented courses along with providing scholarships to promote higher education and research. They highlighted that, alongside academic education, skills-based training is the need of the hour as it equips youth with the abilities required for better employment opportunities.

Participants of the ceremony termed this initiative by PEEF and KIU administration a promising step toward ensuring a brighter future for the youth of the region.

KIU Ghizer Campus Conducts Need Assessment in Flood-Hit Raushan

In the aftermath of the recent Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in Raushan, Ghizer, a team from Karakoram International University (KIU) Ghizer Campus visited the affected areas to carry out a detailed need assessment. The visit was conducted under the directives of the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Attaullah Shah, and was led by Dr. Shahab Ud Din, Director KIU Ghizer Campus.

The team engaged with local communities to assess damages and identify immediate needs of the displaced families. This initiative highlights KIU’s strong commitment to community service, particularly in responding to natural disasters that continue to impact vulnerable mountain communities in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Force Commander FCNA, accompanied by DG GB Scouts visited KIU Ghizer Campus

Major General Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, Force Commander Northern Areas, accompanied by Director General GB Scouts Brigadier Yasir Javed Khan, visited the Karakoram International University (KIU) Ghizer Campus on Thursday. The delegation received a warm welcome from KIU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Attaullah Shah, campus Director, faculty, and staff.

During the visit, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shah briefed the dignitaries on the campus’s academic achievements, ongoing programs, and future development plans. Major General Gilani praised KIU’s significant contributions to the socio-economic uplift of Gilgit-Baltistan and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting key initiatives, including the establishment of a Science and Technology Park, scholarship programs, and vocational training opportunities for students.

An engaging interactive session with students followed, during which the Force Commander emphasized the pivotal role of youth in shaping the region’s future. Session on SUSI (Study of the United States Institutes) Program

Karakoram International University Ghizer Campus hosted a special event focused in the U.S. State Department’s Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) program. The Event organized by Acting Director Campus Dr Nighat Gul, brought together students and faculty members to explore the opportunities and experiences offered by the SUSI program.

The guest speaker, Mr. Kamran, resident of bubur, district Ghizer and SUSI alumnus, shared his firsthand experiences of the program. He discussed the academic and cultural insights he gained during his time in the U.S., offering valuable advice on the application process and the impact of international educational exchange. The program inspired students to seek golbal learning experiences and highlighted the importance of cross-cultural understanding.

KIU Ghizer Campus Students Visit Entrepreneurship Gala Organized by AKRSP

On 24″ September, 2024, students from the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program of Karakoram International University Ghizer Campus visited the Entrepreneurship Gala organized by AKRSP at Green Palace Hotel, Gahkuch. Led by faculty member Muhammad Shuaib Zamrud, the students explored various stalls set up by entrepreneurs from different districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The students had the opportunity to engage with local entrepreneurs, learning about their businesses and gaining insights into the challenges of operating in the regional market. AKRSP provided lunch for all attendees, and the event concluded with an interactive session on entrepreneurship and business development.

The visit was a part of the university’s effort to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical business experience. Mr. Muhammad Shuaib Zamrud, Lecturer Department of Management Sciences KIU Ghizer Campus, emphasized the importance of such events in fostering entrepreneurship among students.

The students returned to campus with a deeper understanding of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Gilgit-Baltistan, inspired to contribute to the economic development of the region through innovative business ideas.

KIU Ghizer Campus Distributed China-Pakistan Friendship Scholarship Cheques to 20 Selected Students

In a significant move to support the academic pursuits of deserving students, Karakoram International University (KIU) Gilgit-Baltistan has awarded the “China-Pakistan Friendship–Ambassadorial Merit-cum-Need Scholarship” to 20 students from KIU Ghizer Campus.

A cheque distribution ceremony was held at KIU Ghizer Campus, where the scholarship cheques were formally presented to the selected students. The ceremony was graced by the esteemed Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Advocate Nazir, as the chief guest. High-ranking officials from KIU Main Campus, including Registrar Dr. Abdul Hameed Lon, Convener Scholarship Committee Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq, Director KGS, Director PR, Director HR, and the Executive Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor, were also in attendance.

Advocate Nazir Ahmad, while congratulating the scholarship recipients, encouraged them to work diligently for the betterment of their region. He also expressed his gratitude to KIU for its unwavering commitment to providing quality higher education and opportunities for students from remote areas. He assured the students and the university of the GB government’s continued support in advancing educational initiatives at KIU and its sub-campuses.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq, Convener Scholarship Committee, advised the students to focus on enhancing their academic performance to fully realize the benefits of the scholarship program. He emphasized the importance of academic excellence in achieving the program’s objectives.

Environmental Literacy

The Department of Biological Sciences at Karakoram International University Ghizer Campus organized an insightful session on Environmental Literacy, featuring Muhammad Aslam, Executive Officer of the Ismaili Muslim Charitable Trust Uganda, as the guest speaker. The session delved into the human-to-nature relationship from an Islamic perspective, emphasizing humans as stewards of nature. It highlighted the threats to nature caused by human intervention and proposed practical steps to mitigate these issues. Muhammad Aslam discussed the importance of reducing pollution through proper waste disposal, recycling, and minimizing the use of harmful chemicals. He stressed that environmental awareness promotes healthier lifestyles, such as increased physical activity through walking or biking instead of driving and the consumption of organic and locally sourced foods. The session underscored the critical role of environmental literacy in fostering sustainable practices and enhancing the well-being of both individuals and communities.
