The one-day national conference on “Climate Change and the Risk of Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in the Mountainous Areas of Pakistan” was held at the KIU Ghizer Campus. The event brought together experts, researchers, and policymakers to discuss the pressing issue of GLOFs, which pose significant threats to communities in Pakistan’s mountainous regions. The conference highlighted the impact of climate change on glacier dynamics and the increasing frequency of GLOFs. Participants emphasized the need for comprehensive risk assessment, early warning systems, and community preparedness to mitigate the adverse effects of these natural disasters. The event concluded with a call for collaborative efforts to enhance resilience and safeguard vulnerable populations against the growing risks associated with climate change and GLOFs.
