Karakoram International University Ghizer Campus and District Administration Join hands for Biodiversity Awareness Walk Ghizer, 30 May 2024 – Karakoram International University (KIU) Ghizer Campus, in collaboration with the District Administration, successfully conducted an awareness walk on biodiversity on May 30, 2024. The walk, which started from the PWD Rest House and concluded at the city park, Gahkuch aimed to educate the community about the importance of preserving diverse biological ecosystems. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, officers/official of District Administration, journalist, environmental activist and local residents. The walk was marked by informative banners, chants, and speeches that highlighted the critical role biodiversity plays in maintaining the balance of our environment. Dr. Shahab uddin, Director KIU Ghizer Campus emphasized the urgency of the situation “Biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better. It is the answer to several sustainable development challenges,” he stated. “From nature-based solutions to climate, health issues, food and water security, and sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better.” The Deputy Commissioner Ghizer, Mr. Habib Ur Rehman, who also participated in the walk, praised the initiative. “It is heartening to see the youth come forward for such a vital cause. The district administration is proud to support KIU in this endeavor and looks forward to more such collaborative efforts,” he remarked.
