On 24″ September, 2024, students from the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program of Karakoram International University Ghizer Campus visited the Entrepreneurship Gala organized by AKRSP at Green Palace Hotel, Gahkuch. Led by faculty member Muhammad Shuaib Zamrud, the students explored various stalls set up by entrepreneurs from different districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The students had the opportunity to engage with local entrepreneurs, learning about their businesses and gaining insights into the challenges of operating in the regional market. AKRSP provided lunch for all attendees, and the event concluded with an interactive session on entrepreneurship and business development.

The visit was a part of the university’s effort to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical business experience. Mr. Muhammad Shuaib Zamrud, Lecturer Department of Management Sciences KIU Ghizer Campus, emphasized the importance of such events in fostering entrepreneurship among students.

The students returned to campus with a deeper understanding of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Gilgit-Baltistan, inspired to contribute to the economic development of the region through innovative business ideas.

KIU Ghizer Campus Distributed China-Pakistan Friendship Scholarship Cheques to 20 Selected Students

In a significant move to support the academic pursuits of deserving students, Karakoram International University (KIU) Gilgit-Baltistan has awarded the “China-Pakistan Friendship–Ambassadorial Merit-cum-Need Scholarship” to 20 students from KIU Ghizer Campus.

A cheque distribution ceremony was held at KIU Ghizer Campus, where the scholarship cheques were formally presented to the selected students. The ceremony was graced by the esteemed Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Advocate Nazir, as the chief guest. High-ranking officials from KIU Main Campus, including Registrar Dr. Abdul Hameed Lon, Convener Scholarship Committee Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq, Director KGS, Director PR, Director HR, and the Executive Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor, were also in attendance.

Advocate Nazir Ahmad, while congratulating the scholarship recipients, encouraged them to work diligently for the betterment of their region. He also expressed his gratitude to KIU for its unwavering commitment to providing quality higher education and opportunities for students from remote areas. He assured the students and the university of the GB government’s continued support in advancing educational initiatives at KIU and its sub-campuses.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq, Convener Scholarship Committee, advised the students to focus on enhancing their academic performance to fully realize the benefits of the scholarship program. He emphasized the importance of academic excellence in achieving the program’s objectives.

Registrar KIU, Dr. Abdul Hameed Lon, highlighted the pivotal role of KIU in uplifting the socio-economic conditions of Gilgit-Baltistan through quality higher education and skill-based learning. He also elaborated on the university’s continuous efforts to secure scholarships for needy and talented students, reflecting KIU’s dedication to educational equity and excellence.

The “China-Pakistan Friendship–Ambassadorial Merit-cum-Need Scholarship” program, supported by the Embassy of China in Pakistan, is a testament to the strong bilateral ties between China and Pakistan.

HEC Self-Assessment Report (SAR) Review Team Visited KIU Ghizer Campus

A team from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Self-Assessment Report (SAR) Review team recently visited the Karakoram International University (KIU) Ghizer Campus to evaluate its degree programs. The SAR Review team conducted a thorough assessment, examining the quality of education, curriculum, faculty, and facilities. Their visit aimed to ensure that the campus programs meet national standards and to provide valuable feedback for further enhancement. This assessment is a crucial part of HEC’s commitment to maintaining and improving the quality of higher education institutions across Pakistan.

National Conference on Climate Change and the Risk of Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF)

The one-day national conference on “Climate Change and the Risk of Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in the Mountainous Areas of Pakistan” was held at the KIU Ghizer Campus. The event brought together experts, researchers, and policymakers to discuss the pressing issue of GLOFs, which pose significant threats to communities in Pakistan’s mountainous regions. The conference highlighted the impact of climate change on glacier dynamics and the increasing frequency of GLOFs. Participants emphasized the need for comprehensive risk assessment, early warning systems, and community preparedness to mitigate the adverse effects of these natural disasters. The event concluded with a call for collaborative efforts to enhance resilience and safeguard vulnerable populations against the growing risks associated with climate change and GLOFs.

Biodiversity Awareness Walk

Karakoram International University Ghizer Campus and District Administration Join hands for Biodiversity Awareness Walk
Ghizer, 30 May 2024 – Karakoram International University (KIU) Ghizer Campus, in collaboration with the District Administration, successfully conducted an awareness walk on biodiversity on May 30, 2024. The walk, which started from the PWD Rest House and concluded at the city park, Gahkuch aimed to educate the community about the importance of preserving diverse biological ecosystems.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, officers/official of District Administration, journalist, environmental activist and local residents. The walk was marked by informative banners, chants, and speeches that highlighted the critical role biodiversity plays in maintaining the balance of our environment.
Dr. Shahab uddin, Director KIU Ghizer Campus emphasized the urgency of the situation “Biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better. It is the answer to several sustainable development challenges,” he stated. “From nature-based solutions to climate, health issues, food and water security, and sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better.”
The Deputy Commissioner Ghizer, Mr. Habib Ur Rehman, who also participated in the walk, praised the initiative. “It is heartening to see the youth come forward for such a vital cause. The district administration is proud to support KIU in this endeavor and looks forward to more such collaborative efforts,” he remarked.
Mr. Sher Khan, SSP Ghizer, has expressed his strong endorsement for the Biodiversity Awareness Walk. “Protecting our natural heritage is our collective responsibility,” he stated. We are committed to extending this mission to include environmental conservation and stand united with KIU and the District Administration in this essential cause.”
The awareness walk concluded with a pledge by all participants to take actionable steps towards conserving biodiversity in their daily lives and encouraging others to do the same

Environmental Literacy

The Department of Biological Sciences at Karakoram International University Ghizer Campus organized an insightful session on Environmental Literacy, featuring Muhammad Aslam, Executive Officer of the Ismaili Muslim Charitable Trust Uganda, as the guest speaker. The session delved into the human-to-nature relationship from an Islamic perspective, emphasizing humans as stewards of nature. It highlighted the threats to nature caused by human intervention and proposed practical steps to mitigate these issues. Muhammad Aslam discussed the importance of reducing pollution through proper waste disposal, recycling, and minimizing the use of harmful chemicals. He stressed that environmental awareness promotes healthier lifestyles, such as increased physical activity through walking or biking instead of driving and the consumption of organic and locally sourced foods. The session underscored the critical role of environmental literacy in fostering sustainable practices and enhancing the well-being of both individuals and communities.

Monday, April 29, 2024: The eagerly awaited Sports Week at KIU Ghizer Campus kicked off today with an exciting inaugural session graced by DC Ghizer as the chief guest. The event witnessed an exhilarating volleyball match, setting the tone for a week of diverse activities and tournaments across various sports.
Students, faculty, and staff from different departments actively engaged in the opening match, showcasing their passion and sportsmanship. The week’s schedule includes traditional sports like cricket, volleyball, and football, along with indoor games, offering ample opportunities for students to compete and celebrate their love for sports.
The enthusiastic participation of students during the inauguration reflects their eagerness to excel in upcoming sports events. The presence of DC Ghizer, along with the District Administration, highlighted the significance of sports in promoting teamwork, discipline, and a healthy lifestyle among the youth.

Achieving eminence, a student from KIU Ghizer Campus has garnered acclaim.

As per the Public Relations Department of KIU, Ghizer Campus, Usman Ali, a Business Administration student, clinched the second position in the 25th batch of the Allied Bank Limited, Management Trainee Officers Program. Additionally, he secured the top position in the Islamabad North Region.

Director Ghizer campus Dr. Shahab underscored the magnitude of this distinction for KIU, particularly the Ghizer Campus. Extending congratulations to Usman Ali, he hailed him as an exemplary figure for fellow students. It is noteworthy that since the inception of Ghizer Campus, its students have consistently demonstrated commendable performance in diverse research projects and training initiatives, thereby fostering a competitive academic milieu on the campus
