Environmental Literacy

The Department of Biological Sciences at Karakoram International University Ghizer Campus organized an insightful session on Environmental Literacy, featuring Muhammad Aslam, Executive Officer of the Ismaili Muslim Charitable Trust Uganda, as the guest speaker. The session delved into the human-to-nature relationship from an Islamic perspective, emphasizing humans as stewards of nature. It highlighted the threats to nature caused by human intervention and proposed practical steps to mitigate these issues. Muhammad Aslam discussed the importance of reducing pollution through proper waste disposal, recycling, and minimizing the use of harmful chemicals. He stressed that environmental awareness promotes healthier lifestyles, such as increased physical activity through walking or biking instead of driving and the consumption of organic and locally sourced foods. The session underscored the critical role of environmental literacy in fostering sustainable practices and enhancing the well-being of both individuals and communities.
